The little things...

It's funny how happy the little things in life can make us. Like a  phone call from my boyfriend that made my day yesterday.

One of the things he told me during that call was that his family in Mexico had received some pictures he sent them, including one of us. Now the picture he sent them is one that I hate. I think I look awful in it. So I was cringing inside when I realized that he had sent it to them, but then he told me that his sister said I was beautiful and that made me feel a little better about the picture.  And apparently his family wants to meet me. :)

He also insisted on having part of our conversation in Spanish, so that he could help me practice. Knowing how tired he was, and that despite that he still took the time to help me, means the world to me.

I don't know.

I'm a very shy person. I also have a huge fear of looking stupid and embarrassing myself. Which makes trying to learn Spanish quite difficult. I've been studying on my own and I can understand a lot more than I could when I first started dating my boyfriend, but I still have a hard time getting myself to actually speak the language. I'll usually only speak it with my boyfriend and only when nobody else can hear me...

Which makes me incredibly thankful that I have an extremely patient boyfriend with patient friends that do their best to communicate with me, even if I'll only respond with, "Yes, no, or I don't know." I'm sure I must make them all want to bang their heads against a wall out of frustration sometimes, but they just make fun of my frequent use of "I don't know" and keep trying. I hope one day soon I will be able to get over my fear and actually be able to talk with them...

Hello

To introduce myself:  I'm Elizabeth, I'm almost 21, and I've been with my boyfriend, who is from Mexico, for a little over a year. I'm currently trying to figure out what I want to do with my life and am considering going back to school. I'm also working on learning Spanish.

A few months ago, I found a couple of blogs by people that are in similar situations to mine and I've been hooked ever since, so I've decided to start my own.
